Orithyia
Orithyia
Orithyia was the daughter of King of Athens. Orithyia and the Ancient
Greek God Boreas became lovers and she gave birth to two daughters. Chione one was the eldest and Cleopatra the youngest. She also gave birth to two sons, Calais and Zetes, both known as the Boreads. These sons grew wings like their immortal father and joined the Argonauts in the quest for the Golden Fleece.
Boreas was considered to be the powerful north wind in Mythology.
Orithyia was later made into the goddess of cold mountain winds. It is said that prior to the destruction of a large number of barbarian ships due to weather during the Persian War, the Athenians offered sacrifices to Boreas and Orithyia, praying for their assistance.
Her daughter Chione was considered to be a Snow Goddess and widely revered for her beauty and mysterious nature.
This necklace is set in sterling silver inlaid with multiple coloured and moon stones and reflects the nature of Orithyia and her daughter.
